Nose:
Sweet vanilla and maritime aromas at first followed by iodine and dried wood smoke. With a little time to breathe honey and floral notes come through, and sponge cake with apricot jam sits in the background.

Palate:
Medicinal flavours hit the palate first followed by smoke and honeycomb. Sweet vanilla can be found in the background. The smoke and iodine dominate as one would expect in a good expression of Caol Ila and the sweeter flavours take their time to show themselves. With a little water the palate becomes sweeter.

Finish:
The finish is long for a thirteen year old whisky with the smoky flavours which are sweet. The whisky doesn’t become dry until the very end and a little spice comes through.
